John Humphrys in conversation

John Humphrys has been a presenter of Radio 4's Today programme since January 1987. In that time he has carved out a reputation as one of the media's most feared interviewers. Earlier this year it was his interview with the BBC's then Director General, George Entwistle, that led to the latter's resignation. John won a Sony Radio Award and the London Press Club award for that interview.

John's interviews on Today have occasionally attracted criticism from
politicians, among them Jonathan Aitken, who in March 1995 accused him of "poisoning the well of democratic debate". The criticism triggered an outbreak of pro-Humphrys comment among listeners and the media, including the Daily Mail, which described him as "one of the most brilliant journalists in the country".

During his career with the BBC, John has also worked as a foreign
correspondent in both America and Africa, and presenter of the Nine O'Clock News. He also presents Mastermind on BBC Two.

This evening John Humphrys talks to journalist and broadcaster (and former Today editor), Phil Harding , about those interviews, about his life in journalism and getting up at an unearthly hour.
