Leading and Engaging with Strengths
This 90 min workshop will introduce the concept of strengths-based working, give delegates ways to identify and develop their own strengths, and explore how strengths-based working fits in an organisational setting.
Delegates will have a chance to:
- Identify their own strengths and spot strengths in others
- Understand the relationship between strengths-based working and engagement
- Explore ways to get the most from strengths at work, and how to help others do the same
- Take away some ideas for introducing and developing strengths-based working for themselves and their organisation
The session is highly interactive with an emphasis on shared exploration of how strengths can enhance individual and organisational performance. There will be insights into and tips on selecting the best strength profiling tool, plus the chance for one delegate to win a free strength profile plus follow-up coaching session.
For HR practitioners we will consider the business case for, and challenges presented by strengths-based working in the organisational setting.
For L&D practitioners we’ll explore how strengths can help direct an individual’s development efforts (and how to invest your training budget for best returns) and whether ‘development’ really is the solution to fixing weaknesses.

About the speaker
Mike has over 15 years experience, working with both individuals and teams to enhance their performance. He has worked with clients in several sectors including FMCG, manufacturing, property, hospitality, finance and insurance, and has held management and specialist roles with a focus on employee engagement and leadership development. In his early career he was an Army Officer. As a facilitator he works with executive leaders and senior managers, typically intertwining business deliverables (e.g. strategy, goals, performance metrics) with the ‘human’ dimensions of organisations (e.g. company culture, team working, trust, collaboration). His facilitation style has been described as “challenging, but in a good way” – encouraging people to test and stretch themselves, safe in the knowledge that there is support on hand. Mike is fascinated by what drives people’s behaviour. By helping delegates find their own motivation to raise performance, Mike instils a learning mindset and appetite for trying new things. He’s therefore very interested in strengths-based working and has conducted research into specific aspects of strength development. He has coached individuals from front-line staff to board level executives. Accreditation in a number of psychometric and personality profiling tools means working with Mike gives individuals a chance to undertake deep exploration of their core drivers and intrinsic motivators. And a heavy accent on practical solutions ensures that conversations in the coaching room convert to effective action back in the workplace.
