Event Details

Discipleship and Mission are at the heart of our call as disciples - to grow as disciples and to make disciples and see other disciples make disciples too. Jesus told us to 'Go into all the world.' Discipleship is the engine, mission is the vehicle - without discipleship at the heart of our outreach, the vehicle won't go anywhere.

A number of youth workers, church leaders and ministry teams have asked "What does that mean for my estate, neighbourhood, community?" 'How can I go deeper into this?' or 'Where can I find out more?' The Youth Advisory Team in Chelmsford Diocese, The Well Church in Camberwell and a number of other churches around the country have been using some tried and tested tools, principles and stories to see this huge subject worked out, practically, in a local context through missional community and discipleship.

So we're delighted to be hosting a team from 3dm europe and partnering with The Well Church in Camberwell to offer a day to find out more about the process of Building a Discipling Culture through Learning Communities.

So - What is a Learning Community?!

A Learning Community is a two year process which consists of four 2-3 day gatherings. Each gathering covers a different theme:

  • o    Building a Discipleship Culture
  • o    Multiplying Missional Leaders
  • o    Launching Missional Communities
  • o    Leading Movements of Mission

At each gathering, teams reflect on their church situation, listen to God, hear inspiring input and make strategic plans. (take a look at a video here which gives more detail or this page)

The taster day gives an introduction to this process and includes:

  • o    Worship
  • o    Devotional
  • o    Input and stories from a local church team and 3dm team
  • o    Individual & group exercises
  • o    Time for reflection
  • o    Discussion
  • o    Q&A
  • o    Opportunities to network
  • o    Lunch and refreshments!

There will be some introductions to the wider theological basis (Covenant and Kingdom) as well as tools such as Lifeshapes, Huddles and Missional Communities. These tools are not a 'fix it' package or a course - instead they encourage a culture and lifestyle of discipleship, disciples making disciples, making disciples.

It doesn't matter how little you know already, or think you know! The day will cover all bases and include streams for youth teams and church leadership teams where appropriate.

The long term aim is to launch a 2 year Learning Community in 2015 and there will be more information about this during the day.

We're particularly keen that TEAMS come along wherever possible as it always helps to have more than one person to feed back and process with. There will be lots of space for conversation and networking and a great lunch too!

The venue is close to Billericay train station and offers good parking facilities.

Who are 3dm?

3dm are a ministry birthed from a local church, in Sheffield, who have spent the last 20 years developing the idea of 'missional communities' as a model for evangelism, outreach, service and discipleship. Check out their website here
