San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
With a growth in VAWG programmes in recent years and the needs of lesbian, bi and trans women suggested as a ‘learning frontier’ in the recent ICAI review of DFID’s VAWG work, Social Development Direct and Stonewall (in conjunction with the LGBT Themes in International Development Roundtable, convened by Stonewall) would like to invite you to a learning event to mobilise evidence and practice for a more inclusive response to violence against LBT women.
The event will be attended by members of the ‘LGBT Themes in International Development’ roundtable, the Gender and Development Network and other expert stakeholders.
Join us for an afternoon of panel discussions and engaging breakout group activities.
The goals of the event are to:
- Foster a more inclusive response to violence against women and girls (VAWG) and other forms of gender-based violence (GBV).
- Share evidence and lessons from practice on VAWG, GBV and LGBT people.
- Strengthen knowledge-sharing, collaboration and practical action among development and human rights organisations across sectors (government, NGOs and private sector).
On the panel, there will be the opportunity to hear from representatives of Social Development Direct, International Alert and DFID’s VAWG team.
Please register your interest here and we will be in touch with a detailed agenda shortly.

When & Where
Stonewall & Social Development Direct
Stonewall was founded in 1989 by people whose aim was to create a highly professional lobbying organisation to put the case for equality on the mainstream political agenda. The organisation has become widely recognised for its work in transforming the legislative landscape for Britain’s 3.7m lesbian, gay and bisexual people including securing equal marriage in 2013. Our strategy is now to work to ensure equality in every part of the lived experience of LGBT people in the UK and internationally.
In 2011, Stonewall amended its charitable objectives to allow us to work internationally. Since then, we have worked with LGBT campaigners around the world, delivered campaigners training and supported the UK government to develop its programme for addressing LGBT rights. We also convene a regular roundtable of international development organisations and charities, the ‘LGBT Themes in International Development Roundtable’.
