On The Beginnings of Hepworth
with Beth Hughes, Curator, Lakeland Arts

Three curators explore different facets of Barbara Hepworth's life and work in our 'On Hepworth' lecture programme which brings new insights and offers up discussion about Hepworth, a leading artist of the twentieth century.

Perhaps what one wants to say is formed in childhood and the rest of one’s life is spent trying to say it.” (Hepworth, 1970)

From the rugged industrial landscapes of Yorkshire to the coastal beauty of St Ives in Cornwall, Hepworth’s art was inspired by a range of environments which infiltrated her creative process. This talk charts Hepworth's travels from Wakefield, Leeds and London, through to her time in St Ives and her journeys through Greece and Italy.

Lecture take place in the LAB. Complimentary drink at 6pm, lecture starts promptly at 6.30pm.
