On Plasters & Prototypes
with Dr. Sam Lackey, Curator, The Hepworth Wakefield
Three curators explore different facets of Barbara Hepworth's life and work in our 'On Hepworth' lecture programme which brings new insights and offers up discussion about Hepworth, a leading artist of the twentieth century.
At the heart of The Hepworth Wakefield lies a collection of 44 plasters and prototypes by Barbara Hepworth. The majority are original plasters, not casts; the first step in a creative process that ultimately resulted in Hepworth's elegiac cast sculptures. Dr. Sam Lackey looks at the use of plaster by Hepworth and her contemporaries including Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore and Kurt Schwitters and consider the status of plasters as original objects in their own right.
Complimentary drink at 6pm, lecture starts promptly at 6.30pm.
