I am delighted to announce the next Ladies Who Impress celebration!

Ladies Who Impress is an event celebrating extraordinary, talented women and their achievements. This time I would like to weave their personal stories through the canvas of London. We live in a remarkably diverse city with cosmopolitan culture and a plenty of secret "pockets" to discover. Be it a playground for a social entrepreneur, an unforgettable experience of 2012 Olympic Games or a setting for a novel, London In Her Eyes is a celebration you don't want to miss!

The evening will feature live interviews with Jenny Dawson, the founder of Rubies in the Rubble,Katherine Grainger, a British rower who won Gold at the 2012 London Olympics and Xiaolu Guo, a writer, filmmaker and storyteller.

Jenny Dawson, a social entrepreneur, was brought up on a farm in South-West Scotland. After graduating with Masters in Maths from Edinburgh University, she moved to London to become a hedge fund manager in the Mayfair. But that path, whilst lucrative, was not fulfilling for Jenny who always wanted to start something on her own and make a difference.

At the age of 25 Jenny started Rubies in the Rubble, producing jams and chutneys from perishing fruit and vegetables discarded at London's markets. With business head and charity at heart, Jenny is employing disadvantaged women to produce "rubies" in her kitchen and then selling them to retailers. Jenny and Rubies in the Rubble won Ben & Jerry's Sustainable Business Award in 2012 and were finalists at the 2013 Veuve Clicquot New Generation Business Woman awards, celebrating female entrepreneurial talent in the UK.

Katherine Grainger is Britain's most successful female rower and one of Britain's most iconic female athletes. She won Olympic Gold in London 2012, there Olympic Silver medals and six world championship titles. She also happens to be the first female British athlete to gain four medals in four consecutive Olympic Games in any sport.

Katherine’s success in rowing is rivalled by her academic achievements. Katherine graduated in Law from Edinburgh University before achieving an MPhil in Medical Law and Medical Ethics from Glasgow University and is currently finalising her PhD in Criminal Law at King’s College, University of London.

Katherine won multiple awards including being shortlisted for the 2012 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, being named Scottish Sports Person of the Year 2009 and being elected a Champion for the 2018 Glasgow bid to host the Youth Olympic Games.

Xiaolu Guo, a storyteller, novelist and filmmaker was born in China and was first published as a poet at the age of 14. Xiaolu was an established novelist before coming to London and writing A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers in English which was shortlisted for the Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction for Xiaolu's humorous, perceptive and poignant story of a young woman's self-discovery journey in the west. Her other novels include 20 Fragments of A Ravenous Youth, UFO In Her Eyes (which inspired the title of this celebration) and a collection of short stories Lovers in the Age of Indifference. Xiaolu also makes films featured in Sundance, Venice, Toronto, St. Petersburg and other film festivals. Her film She, a Chinese was awarded the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2009. Most recently, Xiaolu Guo has been named as one of Granta's Best of Young British Novelists 2013, in recognition as one of the most promising British writers of the decade.
