Lowland Search Technician
This course covers modules 2 & 6 of the ALSAR competency framework for becoming an operational Lowland Search Technician.
ALSAR requires that operational members of Lowland Rescue teams must be qualified to the level of Search Technician. This certification involves a number of skills such as search techniques, navigation, communications, first aid etc
This course takes place over a weekend and concentrates on the specific operational competencies contained in section 2 of the ALSAR Competency Framework.
Through the course students will learn:-
- Introduction to Lowland Search & Rescue and ALSAR
- The role of the Search Technician including attitude and preparedness
- Specific search skills and tactics used to improve detection
- Briefing and debriefing skills
- Missing person behaviour traits
- Dealing with clues
- Crime scene preservation
The course is highly practical with most of the weekend being spent in the extensive grounds of Easthampstead Park Conference Centre learning search skills and putting these into action. There is also a search exercise on the Sunday morning which is off-site. Students are assessed throughout the course.
This course is designed to teach students who have no prior knowledge of Lowland Search and Rescue techniques, however we find that students who have had several weeks prior exposure to their local Lowland SAR unit excel on this course. All that is essential is that the student is considered fit enough to undertake the course as much of it is held outside and is physical in nature. For this we recommend that the student have first undertaken the standard ALSAR 5in2 fitness check with their team.
The student MUST also have suitable clothing for the outdoors as training is undertaken in all weathers.
The course costs £35 to ALSAR team member or £150 for non-ALSAR team members which is payable in advance.
The course is residential for those who require it but does not include catering. You will need to bring your own food but you can also vist the many excellent fast food establishments that surround the Bracknell/Wokingham area.
