Join us for a night of live audio-visual performances 42 feet underground in the Brunel Tunnel Shaft, a breathtaking stone chamber once home to Ethiopian serenaders, fire-eaters and dancing horses in a Victorian thrill-seekers paradise!
Following on from our sold out launch event at The Forge, the eight-piece ANIMA ensemble will perform brand new audio-visual collaborations from some of the most exciting composers and visual artists in the UK, selected from the first round of a national competition generously supported by Help Musicians UK. The event will also feature a performance of Steve Reich’s mesmeric string quartet work, Different Trains, alongside visuals by Mihai Cucu and live sets by visual artists Mark Watson and Emily Bailey, all taking advantage of the unique acoustics and grimy, blackened caisson walls onto which the visuals will be projected.
When & Where
ANIMA is an exciting collaborative project bringing together some of the UK’s most dynamic contemporary composers, musicians and visual artists. Founded by composer, Chris Roe, the ANIMA Collective aims to connect different art forms, and place contemporary music in a new context. Bringing together talented composers and performers with a diverse range of animators and filmmakers, the result is a powerful collective of creative artists, dedicated to exploring new collaborative projects, and creating original, dynamic performances.
After a sold-out launch event at The Forge, ANIMA has since staged a nationwide competition, generously supported by Help Musicians UK and culminating in a performance 42 feet underground in the incredible Brunel Tunnel Shaft.
