Join talented blacksmith, Stuart Makin, designer of the creative commission installed in the Warrior Treasures Exhibition, in this metalworking session. Learn some of the techniques that the ancient Anglo-Saxon Craftsmen used to decorate their weapons and helmets.
In this two-hour session you will learn the basics of repoussé and inlay. Repoussé is the process of hammering a design in relief on to sheet metal by using a series of punches. Inlay is a form of decoration where you cut a groove into metal using chisels and then hammer a piece of contrasting metal into the groove.
We will put these techniques to use by making a small token or pendant that you can take home with you to remember the skills you have learnt.
