Home to classic artists such as Tone Loc, Young MC, The Pharcyde, and Masta Ace, Delicious Vinyl holds a very special place in Hip-Hop history. As the labels legacy is carried through to the next generation, Delicious Vinyl continues to hold it down on Sunset Boulevard and remains one of the finest independent record labels in Los Angeles.
Mixcloud's favourite, Soulection Radio is a Music-Talk show broadcasted LIVE every Saturday from 10am - 1pm (PDT) L.A. Time via Kbeach | KKJZ 88.1FM HD3 | www.kbeach.org
The Melt is a music collective, blog and club night based out of LA, showcasing up and coming musicians from all over the globe. Founded by Roger Schami and Jesse Sappell in August of 2011, The Melt has since grown into a network of friends, working towards the same goal and building momentum for an ever-evolving generation of artists.
Forty weeks ago on a balmy So Cal evening, Alpha Pup artists Preston Walker (of Virtual Boy) and Great Dane (newly signed) challenged each other to a game: produce a one-minute beat in one hour, using a set BPM and sample from the Notorious B.I.G. Sixty minutes later two new tracks were created, and TeamSupreme was born. Combining playtime and practice, the idea of TeamSupreme soon spread across the flat, freeway-laden land of LA, with producers clamoring to get in on the action and be a part of the exciting beat experiment.
Music for Dancers
Music For Dancers, founded in 2009 by Joshua James and Thomas K, is an organization and event which supports the music and artists of the underground. Since the inception of MFD both Joshua and Thomas have branched out upon a few other ventures. Adventures In Flight, Open Spaces, and The Los Angeles Record Pool all reside under the umbrella of Music For Dancers.
Having worked with some of todays most ambitious labels, including Warp, Alpha Pup, Dublab, Ghostly and more and his newest home Project Mooncircle, Sweatson Klank has helped to shape the sound of todays future music. His catalog is as diverse as it is poignant. A favorite of BBC1/XFM tastemaker Mary Anne Hobbs, he has shared the stage with luminaries Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Araab Muzik, Toro Y Moi, Washed Out, Nosaj Thing, Hudson Mohawke, Just Blaze, TOKiMONSTA, Mary Anne Hobbs herself, and countless others.
Alluxe (Electronic Creatives)
As Laura Escudé is known around the world for her expertise in music technology and programming for the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z, Herbie Hancock, Bon Iver and more, her gigantic Alluxe sound is set to take the electronic scene by surprise. The former award-winning concerto and symphony violinist produces some of the most growling, banging and gritty electronic beats in the game. With Alluxe, Escudé puts focus on her craft as a producer, composer and performer. And the response spread instantaneously: she’s already opened for the likes of Garbage and RYAT, and performed at LA’s Low End Theory, in addition to being commissioned for remixes by M83 (‘Steve McQueen’) and Poliça (‘Lay Your Cards Out’).
DJ Mza / Soul Circle Radio
With music as a means, Soul Circle Radio takes you on a weekly journey. For two hours every Saturday, take a mind trip on a musical quest, exploring sounds with soul. Each show has a different destination, ranging from the samba of Brazil to the garage house sounds in New York to the afrobeat of Nigeria, searching for the perfect blend of soulful music. Past show destinations have been Brazilian uptempo, funk, and house melodies. Broadcast live in Los Angeles at The Artform Studio, Soul Circle Radio realizes that soulful music spans past a specific genre, pushing past genre barriers and blending sounds into one heavy soulful concoction.
HIT + RUN, the world's leader in live screenprinting, was created in 2005 by Southern California artists Brandy Flower and Mike Crivello. A product of the contagious enthusiasm they had seen at small silkscreening parties in their homes, HIT + RUN's live screenprinting events quickly grew, and today the Crew can be found at everything from Coachella, to the Super Bowl, to Art Basel, SXSW and more.
