Money Talks in York
January 30 2013, 4.00 – 7.00pm
Ebor Suite, Royal York Hotel (next to railway station), York, YO24 1AA
Money Talks is a series of four free, hands-on events across Yorkshire, designed to open up the conversation about new forms of finance for the arts. Whether you’re an artist, writer, performer, designer, producer, promoter, publisher or innovator, the current economic climate can make the business of creativity even more challenging.
At Money Talks - happening in Leeds, Sheffield, York and Hull - you’ll hear from a range of speakers from across the creative industries who will cut through the noise to assess the different funding options for businesses across cultural sectors. Meet your peers in fields as diverse as craft, games design, drama, web design, dance and the full range of visual arts and discuss the challenges and opportunities for creative businesses in Yorkshire, for 2013 and beyond.
Money Talks has been instigated by Creative Industry Finance, an Arts Council England programme to support creative businesses.

SCY are delighted to be hosting Money Talks in York with Arts Council England, to bring you an interesting few hours of talks and discussion around crowd funding, commercialising sustainable co-design in addition to the Arts Council's Creative Industry Finance programme.
Speakers include Steven Johnson, director of Collaborative Change, discussing their new initiative - Considered Creative. This new venture focuses on the need to embed sustainability and social change considerations into mainstream advertising and design practice. Steven believes sustainability will be 'the new digital' in innovation terms and advertising and design teams have an opportunity to generate commercial value by developing the skills required to innovate in this area. Andrew Lindsay from Lupton Fawcett Lee & Priestley will be talking about the merits of crowd funding and explaining how it can be applied to your business ventures. Mary-Alice Stack from Arts Council England will be discussing how their Creative Industry Finance scheme will work and how you can access their support of up to 12 hours mentoring and loan funds of between £5000 and £25000.
Refreshments and a light buffet will be provided. This event is free but pre-booking is essential. If you book and cannot attend please let us know so we can release your ticket for others as spaces are limited to 50.
