Event Details

Whilst improved clinical knowledge, better diagnosis and increased media coverage mean that the terms autism and AS are becoming increasingly familiar to the lay public, in the employment context knowledge tends to be low, inaccurate and based upon stereotypes

Anne and Nikki will both be seeking to challenge your thinking about how differences can create positive or negative employment outcomes.

They will be talking about the challenges for HRM specialists in managing individuals with AS and autism, which for many is a condition surrounded by stereotypes, some positive and some negative. Positive stereotypes lead employers to pigeonhole individuals into roles which are narrow in focus, whilst negative stereotypes can mean that some applicants do not get past the selection stage

HR specialists play a key role in unlocking quality employment experiences and during this event you will be invited to consider if and how your current approaches to selection and career management as well as the day to day working environments are meeting the needs of this  population

Speakers: Nikki Stevenson and Anne Cockayne

Nikki and Anne will be sharing their experiences of autism in the employment context. Nikki is Chair of the Nottingham Asperger’s self-help society and Anne is a PhD researcher at Nottingham Business School.

Tickets for Non-Members will cost £10 including VAT and the admin cost - refunds can only be made if you cancel your place 3 days prior of the event.
