Course Content/Objectives

The CPD session aims to train teachers in the use of the excellent resources found in Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre handling collection and the Zoology Museum. This will enable teachers to lead activities that increase the child’s awareness and experience of the natural world, through interactive, resource-based learning which develops the child’s observational and investigation skills.

Teachers will investigate the impact of the earth’s daily rhythms on animals and learn how to use ‘hands on’ activities to explore this topic with their class. Various aspects of biodiversity will be covered, specifically how an animal’s behaviour and use of its sense organs have adapted to daily rhythms to increase the survival success of that animal. Self-led visits can be booked following the CPD within a specific timeframe. SCN 1-02a, SCN 0-06a and SCN 1-12b
