Recognise the invisible learning inside and outside the classroom.

Open Badges help young people display a range of skills beyond traditional qualifications. As educators and businesses design their own badges we are expanding the ways in which young people can personalise their learning and showcase the skills that make a difference to employers. By adopting the international standard, we can easily transfer badges across applications, building a rich picture of our skills.

The event is an opportunity to hear from and network with people who have similar interest in education and open badges.

Open Badges: past, present, and future
This short presentation will give you an overview of where Open Badges came from, some examples of good practice within the ecosystem, and a glimpse at what's coming next. We'll have a whistle-stop tour from what a 'badge' is, all the way through to how they can work in various contexts and situations to help credential both formal and informal learning!

What we learned from Open Badges
Find out how the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) piloted the use of Open Badges with a technology budget of £100. The presentation will quickly cover important lessons learned by the SSSC that could help you in your own badges journey. Robert Stewart leads on the adoption of micro-credentials at the SSSC, where they’re being used to recognise informal learning in a new and more accessible way. A Learning and Development Adviser within the SSSC Learning Technologies Team, he helps social service workers and employers think differently about learning and development.
