Annual General Meeting from 10.30am to 11.15am
Calling the Church to Account from 11.20am to 1.00pm
Introducing Operation Noah’s new national campaign calling on churches to disinvest from fossil fuels, with guest speakers Ann Pettifor speaking about ecological justice and the economic and financial context of climate change, followed by David Atkinson speaking about the theological rationale underpinning the campaign. There will be small group discussions and a panel discussion regarding development of the campaign.
Ann Pettifor is Director of Policy Research in Macroeconomics, a fellow of the New Economics Foundation and Executive Director of Advocacy International that advises governments and organisations on international finance and sustainable development. She is known for her leadership in the worldwide Jubilee 2000 campaign to cancel debts of the poorest countries, as well as being former campaigns director of Operation Noah. With her understanding of debt, the financial sector and campaigning she brings a unique perspective to the question of whether churches should continue to hold substantial financial stakes in the fossil fuel sector.
Bishop David Atkinson is Honorary Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Southwark and author of the book ‘Renewing the Face of the Earth: theological and pastoral responses to climate change’
Calling the Church to 'Be the Change' from 2.00pm to 4.30pm, led by Paul Bodenham
Introductory session for Operation Noah’s Ambassadors and any interested supporters, focused on communicating effectively on the new campaign and any other aspects of climate change. The Ambassadors will be at the fore-front of communicating information about Operation Noah and taking our campaigns forward across local communities. The session will look at a wide variety of new resources available and there will be time for personal action planning, identifying support needs and networking to build a community of Ambassador's to take forward our education and awareness raising work.
