Description

If you want to learn the essential camera functions that will improve your product photography and the look of your business, then this is the perfect workshop for you.

Photocraft courses and workshops are aimed at people with an SLR or hybrid camera with manual settings. You are not required to have one of these cameras to participate in the live workshops because more time is spent learning and taking notes, unlike the online courses which are aimed at daily camera practice.

There are opportunities to practice with your camera however, so do bring it along whatever camera it is and you can learn about it as you go.

This workshop is perfect for you if...

  • You are a complete photography beginner and don’t know your f stops from your ISO’s
  • You want to stop using your camera in AUTO mode and control the outcome of your photos
  • You own an SLR or similar camera, or are thinking of buying a new camera and investing in your photography
  • You want to download a perfect photo every time rather than taking lots and hoping that one is OK
  • You want to learn how to light your products with a professional lifestyle look
  • You would love to learn the secrets behind achieving perfect white backgrounds in camera
  • You are frustrated with grey backgrounds or dark dull photos
  • You are interested in setting up a photo shoot area in your home or studio
  • You want to improve your online sales and get more interest in your brand
  • You want to achieve a higher quality of product image that shows off your product
  • You are excited to learn a proven step by step process for getting perfect shots every time
  • You want to speed up your product shots and spend less time playing with props
  • You are excited about defining a look for your photos and your own unique style
  • You love lifestyle images found in magazines and want to learn how to achieve them yourself
  • You would love to capture your customer’s imagination and create an aspirational look that sells.

The workshop format

This two day workshop covers lessons in undertstanding your camera, lighting and working with natural light at home, how to style your photos and what props to use, and how to present your final shots. There is a lot to learn in two fun packed days! You can choose to attend one or both workshops.

The lessons are taught in a classroom style environment in small group numbers of up to 8 per workshop. There are practical demonstrations throughout and a chance to snap away at the demo set ups throughout the day if you wish.

Each student will receive a canvas goodie bag complete with notebook, pencil and other goodies.

DAY 1

We kick start our 2 fun packed days with photography theory basics so that you can create bright, sharp photos every time, and learn the art of background blur, capturing motion, improving sharpness and clarity, making your photos jump from the page.

After lunch we look at lighting and learn how to adapt and direct light to create amazing natural looking scenes, all with natural daylight! We then master the art of the perfect white background which involves no digital editing!

To maximise learning time and minimise delays, students work as a group to help set up different scenes while taking plenty of notes on the step by step processes taught.

Students are encouraged to bring their cameras so that they can learn where to find the applicable settings during the lessons and ask for help if needed. They have the opportunity to practice on each set up after the lessons.

DAY 2

With heads buzzing with photography lessons, students return with questions galore and keen to know more!

Day 2 concentrates on styling. We develop mood boards, create style lists and colour palettes and figure out how your choices in backdrops, props and lighting all affect the overall style of your images.

We look at current colour trends and how to apply them to your next photo shoot, and learn some neat painting tricks for creating your own backdrops. Students get a 25% discount to use with Global Colour Research and leave with their own painted backdrop!

Lessons in composition and product/prop placement follow after lunch to develop your awareness of perfecting each shot, and students learn how to fake both a large and small set for their products.

We finish by looking at some free editing software that will help you crop, resize and output your photos for web and print use, pixels and Dpi are explained and demystified!

The Venue

This workshop venue is a little different, a small group of just 5 students in the garden of a cottage in the picturesque village of Rodmell! A quaint, friendly workshop!
