This event is hosted by ACCL – Active Communication Company Ltd and our speaker is Paul Cave – Technical Manager of Excel Networking.
Paul has over 30 years experience in the IT industry, more than 25 of which has been in the Structured Cabling and Networking Markets. He has had numerous articles published as well as presentations at major conferences.
Powered Ethernet is a technology that continues to push accepted limits: the more power that can be delivered through copper Ethernet cables, the more industry seems to want to have available.
However this has stimulated serious discussion surrounding the impact of PoE (Power over Ethernet) on structured cabling and the heating effect that is caused by pushing a current down a cable that was not designed originally for the purpose as more and more powered devices are being deployed.
This presentation cover the extensive research that was undertaken in conjunction with De Montfort University.
During this research concerns were also raised regarding whether the continued ‘heat cycling’ due to the use of PoE would have an artificial ageing effect on the performance of the cable itself leading to issues with parameters such as ACR and Return Loss, this stimulated additional research and those findings will also be shared.
This research is still ongoing and the presentation will contain any relevant updates.
The event will be followed by Q&A, networking and refreshments
