Many authors view PR as a necessary evil, best kept at arm's length. But in the digital age, publicity & marketing can be an organic, and even rewarding part of the creative process. Social media and live events give authors a chance to communicate directly with their audience while understanding how to promote a book enables authors to deliver effective, tailored PR, and to retain better control of how their work is represented.
Taught by leading book publicist Tory Lyne-Pirkis, this course is suitable for writers of fiction and non-fiction at any level of experience. You'll learn why you need to use PR, how to spot marketing opportunities, how to use social media to interact with your readers, how to use live events to build your audience, plus the best ways to secure media coverage for your writing.
This is a large-scale lecture-style event hosted by leading PR talent Tory Lyne-Pirkis, of acclaimed literary publicity agency Midas Public Relations, and featuring a talk from a guest author offering a writer's view of the process. Although there is no practical component to the class, there will be ample time for attendees to ask questions at the close of each session and at the end of the event. Topics covered include:

Tory Lyne-Pirkis is an Account Director at Midas Public Relations. Tory is experienced in working with both published and self-published authors, including brand building for debut and unknown authors, and securing high profile coverage for both publishing imprints and individual titles. She has worked with both fiction and non-fiction authors writing across all book genres from romance, crime, historical and young adult to architecture, philosophy, travel and photography.
