This workshop specifically addresses the unresolved need to establish a structured form of reflective practice which is both inclusive and mindful of the social context. Based upon social identity theory, we will look beyond the idea of reflective learning only as an individual process of introspection. We also move beyond reflection as a series of spirals, loops and cycles (structural models of reflection). Participants will be introduced to a new theory of learning developed into a relational and context-sensitive practice for reflection.
This will be a social and participative event in which there will be opportunities to discuss current practices and to experience this new identity-based approach to reflection. The workshop will explore social ideas of reflective practice as they relate to:
- reflective writing,
The emphasis throughout will be upon the re-design of reflective learning and development based around the socially-situated group. Case studies will be presented where this approach has already been used in different professional and personal learning situations. The SharedThinking practice was developed from doctoral research conducted at the University of Glasgow.
