SIETAR UK Event – Communication & Conflict and a Fresh Country View
Saturday, 8 June 2013 from 09:30 to 16:30 (BST)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
10 AM - An interactive learning session on Conflict, Negotiation and Play helping to give trainers, coaches and academics ideas and tools to use in everyday life.
We begin with sensing others and seeing how we hold our feelings in our bodies. The session will develop with an exploration of power and subtle signals that become visible when examined closely. The session will reach its climax with your shared stories that Kate will then use to demonstrate some playful and dramatic ways to help you deal with the more challenging people encountered in your work and travels.
Kate Beales is a facilitator, mediator and arts practitioner. As a freelance theatre director, and Artist with the National Theatre Learning Department, she has spent twenty years exploring creative ways in which we can put ourselves into the shoes of others. She uses practical techniques combining theatre and conflict resolution training to create programmes developing communication, empathy, rapport building and conflict management for adults and children of all ages, in settings ranging from teenagers to multinational corporations.
Her work this year include running Empathy workshops for new Londoners and ex-offenders; exploring communication skills for trainee teachers at Hokkaido University of Education; creating a storytelling project for Kabul-based charity Afghan Action; and community conflict coaching on behalf of Lambeth Mediation Service and Lambeth Living.
PM In the afternoon we will be demonstrating some novel techniques for describing the culture of countries with examples from Poland, the USA, France and China. Speakers include Konrad Wdowiak, Ellen Hake and SIETAR France’s Mark Manners.
We will finish at around 4.30 PM.
The event will be followed by drinks and a restaurant meal.
