Event Details

Social Enterprise North West are running a series of Master Classes supported by the Office for Civil Society and the North West Development Agency. Places are limited, so please confirm attendance as soon as possible.

Following the success of a range of Master Classes, which ran during Jan-March 2010, Social Enterprise North West has been commissioned by the North West Development Agency and the Office of Civil Society to run another series of Classes.

These Master Classes represent a catalyst to create stronger social enterprises, which can capitalise on opportunities, increase organisational performance and increase profitability.

The target group for the Master Classes are Social Entrepreneurs, Social Enterprises and Business Link Social Enterprise Champions.

Lunch & refreshments will be provided throughout the day. Please specify if you have any special dietary requirements.

 

The aim of the Master Class is to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to develop skill audits within their own organisations and will cover:-

 

  • what is a skills audit?
  • outline of the stages of the skills audit
  • discuss business objectives and why they are key to the process
  • discuss organisation charts and how well they match existing job descriptions and person specifications.
  • analysing the findings of the skills audit
  • devising training and development plans – for the organisation and individuals within it
  • discuss training budgets and funding that may be available for different groups of people
  • discuss the different types of training and development activity that an organisation can access
  • building in a review for the process using existing processes such as induction, supervision, appraisal, away-days, team meetings, etc.

 

Class Trainer - Mike Dodd

 

 Mike works as Principal Consultant for BCT Regenesis Ltd, the trading arm of Blacon Community Trust, a community based organisation delivering numerous services to the area of Blacon including; Childcare, Education, Community Development, Business Incubation, Enterprise Coaching and Environmental projects.

Mike has extensive experience of working in the social enterprise sector in partnership with a wide range of agencies and organisations. Over the past eleven years he has specialised in providing independent business advice and capacity building support to groups and individuals at a grass roots level to overcome barriers to enterprise generation within disadvantaged communities.

Mike is recognised as a pioneer in community based approaches to business incubation playing a major role in the management and development of the social enterprise sector across the UK.

Mike is a SFEDI qualified business counsellor, a member of the Institute of Business Consultants and a qualified NVQ assessor. He has recently been awarded the CMI Diploma in Mentoring.

 

Location

By Car:

Multi Storey car parking is available at the Golden Square Shopping Centre. Access is sign posted and is available off Leigh Street and from Midland Way. Those with blue badges can park on double yellow lines opposite the Gateway and disabled parking spaces on Winmarleigh Street.

 

From Chester exit the M56 at junction 11 and follow the A56 to the town centre.

From Liverpool exit the M62 at junction 9 and follow the A49 to the town centre.

From the North exit the M6 at junction 22 and follow the A49 to the town centre.

From the South and South East exit the M6 at junction 21 and follow the A57 to the town centre.

By Bus:

From the West a number of services (6, 6A, 13, 14, 15, 16, 16A, 18, 18A, 20A, 29, 30, 30B, 31, 31A, 32, 33, 33A, 110, 340, H5) set down at the Town Hall gates. The Gateway is just opposite.

From other directions get off at the bus station and walk up Horsemarket Street following the directions for rail passengers (East West) as below.

By Rail:

North-South. Get off the train at Warrington Bank Quay – turn left outside the station and walk 100 yards past a Dunelm store to a cross roads with traffic lights. Turn right into Sankey Street and the Gateway is another 100 yards or so on your right (opposite the Town Hall Gates)

East West. Get off the train at Warrington Central. If you feel like walking it is ½ - ¾ of a mile – turn left outside the station and walk straight up Winwick Street onto the pedestrianised area (Horsemarket Street) as far as Market Gate (a crossroads with a fountain in the middle. Turn right into Sankey Street and keep straight on, crossing three side streets (on your left). The Gateway is at the corner of Springfield Street and the entrance is on Sankey Street opposite the Town Hall gates. There is a taxi rank outside the station. If the driver isn’t sure where the Gateway is, say it is opposite the Town Hall.
