For our second Sunday Poetry Salon of 2016, it’s a treat to welcome to the bookshop Ruth Padel and Patrick Mackie. Ruth Padel’s most recent book is Learning to Make an Oud in Nazareth (Chatto), following on the heels of her collection of poems about migration, The Mara Crossing, and her innovative verse biography of Charles Darwin. Patrick Mackie’s new collection, The Further Adventures of the Lives of the Saints, was published by CB Editions earlier this year and received with rapturous acclaim.
John Clegg, poetry buyer for the London Review Bookshop, writes: ‘Padel and Mackie might sound like a pair of eighteenth-century highwaymen, but in fact they’re writing some of the most adept and alert poetry going. This chance to hear them in conversation shouldn’t be missed.’
There will be an autumnal tart and home-made peach wine provided by the London Review Cake Shop.
Events at the London Review Bookshop are held on our gorgeous shop floor, located in the heart of literary London right around the corner from the British Museum. Take a look at our full schedule of events ranging from book signings to delicious food to intimate film screenings. Please note that the only toilet at the Bookshop is down a flight of stairs.
