Re: Invitation to participate in research study looking at supervision – open to registered social workers working as practitioners in statutory adult social care services.

Angela Jenkinson Lead researcher) is currently undertaking a research study looking at social work supervision. The study team consist of psychology and social care researchers from Kingston University, King’s College London and the University of Essex. A registered and experienced social worker is acting as consultant to the team. We are keen to support the research and Angela has presented to several PSW network meetings

What is this study about? - This research will study statutory social workers’ professional supervision.

Who is funding the research? - This research has been funded by the School for Social Care Research (National Institute for Health Research).

Eligible participants - registered social workers working as practitioners in statutory adult social care services.

What will participants be asked to do? Participants will be asked to read two social work case vignettes. You may be asked to discuss the cases with a supervisor arranged by the research team. You will then be asked to answer some questions related to each vignette.

Will participant views be confidential? Your name will be recorded on your completed task but will be available only to the research team. In line with data storage policy, we will keep anonymised transcripts and our analysis for seven years, in line with normal university retention policy. Subsequently, the information will be securely destroyed. However, in the unlikely event that something is disclosed that reveals professional negligence or criminality, the relevant authorities will be informed. This would be discussed with you.

The research will take 90 minutes and take place at London Councils offices
