The Rugby Business Network is the world's largest business networking community where business people with a passion for rugby can help each other in business and in life both online and face to face at events all around the World.
Following the success of the inaugural Rugby Business Network Bath held in September 2013, we would be delighted if you could join us for the next event to be held in the city at The Porter on Tuesday 21st January 2014.
The event will be a chance to network just ahead of the start of the 2014 Six Nations with individuals from both the local and wider business community, all of whom share a passion for rugby.
The evening will also involve a question and answer session with ex Bath, Lions and England lock, Nigel Redman and Sponsorship & Marketing Strategy Consultant, Sophie Morris amongst other special guests to be confirmed.
The Q&A Panel:
In 1984 aged 20, Nigel won the first of his 20 caps for England in an international career that spanned over 13 years. During that time Nigel played in several overseas tours and in two World Cup tournaments reaching the final in 1991 only to lose against Australia. In 1994 Nigel won the England Rugby “Player of the Year” award.
During his 16 years with Bath Nigel became a Rec legend winning 10 National Cups, 6 league titles and in 1998 with Bath became the first English winners of the European Cup.
In 1997 Nigel toured South Africa with the British and Irish Lions where he captained the team on two occasions. The Lions blew the then World Champions away winning the first two test matches and the series 2 – 1.
Nigel joined the Rugby Football Union in 2003 as a National Academy Coach, his responsibilities included the individual development of talented players as well as coaching international teams at U19, U20 and U21. During his time at the Rugby Union Nigel has helped in the development of some of England’s finest young rugby players as well as leading English teams to two grand slams and the first English coach to have medalled at two junior world championships.
Following on from his role as National Academy coach, Nigel took the position of Elite Coach Development Manager and his responsibilities included developing coaches across the Premiership, Championship and International teams.
In conjunction with his role at the RFU, in 2009 Nigel was invited by UK Sport to work as part of the delivery team for the Elite Coach Apprentice Programme (ECAP). The team has the responsibility of writing and delivering a coach education programme to the next group of aspiring Olympic coaches. In 2011 Nigel was invited by UK Sport to join the steering group for the Elite Coach programme that was subsequently launched after the Olympics in November 2012 at the World Class Coaching Conference.
Sponsorship & Marketing Strategy Consultant, Millharbour Marketing
Sophie's involvement in rugby began when she was Director of Marketing for Killik & Co stockbrokers, who sponsored Barbarians games at Twickenham. Sophie led that sponsorship and became a huge fan of the sport as a result.
In January 2012, she decided to do some volunteer work and joined Millwall Rugby Club as Development Officer. Given her enthusiasm for representing the club, Sophie was asked to join the Essex County RFU Development Committee and, given her background, was asked to present to all the County’s clubs on Sponsorship. That presentation is now used in a national RFU club education initiative. Sophie continues this season as Communications Officer for Millwall RC, whilst also sitting on the Essex RFU Management Committee, RFU Rugby Growth Committee, RWC2015 Regional Activation & Legacy Groups and playing for her team Millwall Venus.
Sophie also runs her own business, Millharbour Marketing, helping businesses make the most of their marketing. Given her background, she specialises in rugby sponsorship and the integration of sponsorship throughout the whole marketing strategy to deliver the best possible return to her clients.
Format of the Evening:
