As well as assessing the ‘bright side’ personality characteristics of leaders, there has been increasing research on the 'dark side’ traits, or those flawed interpersonal strategies that can cause leaders to derail an organisation. These extreme characteristics can be strengths up to a certain point, but can pivot over to weaknesses when overplayed. Dark side tendencies often emerge during new or stressful situations, such as those often faced by leaders in today’s fast-paced and demanding business environment. By assessing and understanding the impact of dark side traits, organisations can ensure they recruit the right leaders and develop them so as to minimise their weaknesses and capitalise on their strengths.
Gillian is Chief Psychologist at Psychological Consultancy Ltd (PCL) based in Tunbridge Wells. With over 20 years’ experience in the business psychology field, she has deep expertise in the research and development of assessment solutions. Gillian was instrumental in acquiring and developing the UK editions of the Hogan tests and has played a major role in designing and delivering Hogan conversion courses. Much of her work still draws on her expertise and familiarity with the Hogan instruments, including the delivery of high-level assessments and personal development feedback with a particular focus on derailers.
Gillian is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist with a BSc in Psychology from UCL, an MPhil in Criminology from Cambridge and an MSc in Occupational and Organisational Psychology from Birkbeck College, London. She is a founder member of the Association of Business Psychologists and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society

Parking at the hotel is free - take you ticket from the barrier on arrival and it will be verified (or the barrier will be raised at the end of the day)

CIPD Kent Branch
We are the Kent branch of CIPD - the professional body for HR and people development. The not-for-profit organisation champions better work and working lives and has been setting the benchmark for excellence in people and organisation development for more than 100 years.
We have a wide range of organisations and CIPD membership and we respond to this with a full selection of CPD and networking opportunities.
Due to the geographical spread of the county we have 3 area groups – Mid Kent, West Kent and East Kent. Between them they regularly hold sessions with guest speakers on subjects requested by the members. Most events are supported by local companies who host the events and provide an opportunity to meet other HR practitioners.
We also appreciate the specialisms within HR and have Special Interest Groups that meet regularly and occasionally have speakers. These groups include Health and Social Care and Senior Practitioners. Similarly we have smaller bespoke groups, Self Managed Learning Groups that operate throughout the county. These include the Coaching Groups in East Kent and West Kent. We encourage the creation of new groups so if there is not an area covered, why not set one up?
