The talk will cover:

  • Rectangular and Circular Concrete Tanks and Reservoirs
  • How these structures can be designed using simple methods or by more complex computer analysis packages.
  • The effects of combined bending and axial forces
  • Shrinkage due to thermal effects and drying.
  • How small cracks can self-heal
  • Design to EC2 and CIRIA C660 – Use of Design Aids
  • Reinforcement calculations to limit crack widths due to
    • Direct Forces – Bending and Axial and Shear
    • Indirect Forces – Shrinkage
    • Punching Shear
  • Example Structures
  • Detailing Guidance

 

 

Robin Atkinson is a long serving TVRG committee member. He has 35 years of experience in the design of Water Retaining Structures.
