About this event

In July 2018, the Mayor of Greater Manchester Launched ‘A Shared Future’, a report resulting from the Social Cohesion commission set up in the aftermath of the terror attacks on the city of Manchester in May 2017. The report pledged to host an annual summit - this year will see our first event on Thursday 11th July from 8.30am-4pm at Audacious Church, Trinity Way, Salford.

The event will bring political leaders, policy makers, practitioners and members from across civil society together to -

• Reflect on progress made in our city region on these themes - including workshops from across the whole city region

• Hear keynotes and inputs from thought leaders and academics from the UK, Europe and Greater Manchester - confirmed speakers include:

o Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester

o Baroness Beverly Hughes, Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester

o Hardip Begol, Director of MHCLG

o Harvey Redgrave, Senior Advisor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change

o Professor Hilary Pilkington, University of Manchester

o Diana van de Giessen, Strategic Advisor to the Mayor, City of Rotterdam

o Sunder Katwala, CEO of British Futures

o Jo Broadwood, CEO of COIN

• Practical workshops will cover themes including the following: Migration and Integration, Virtual Reality approaches to dealing with Hate Crime, Cohesion in North Manchester, Embedding Cohesion In Schools, ‘Eyes and Ears’ – training frontline staff to manage vulnerability and risk.

• Policy panels and roundtable discussions to explore challenges and propose solutions

This is a FREE event and will include lunch and refreshments. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
