This day is aimed at counsellors working with couples, families and individuals, and will focus on the impact of an affair on the intimate adult couple and how the triangle outside the room is re-enacted in the work.

Aims of the day

·        To explore the fundamental principles of partner choice

·        To identify the kinds of difficulties that might lead to an affair

·        To discuss the extent to which the underlying reasons for an affair are located in the individual or the couple relationship

·        To explore keeping the ‘couple in mind’ when working with the individual or the couple

·        To identify the effects of an affair on all involved

·        To explore the effects on the practitioners of working in the triangle

Teaching format

lecture and discussion, video material, presentation of clinical examples, opportunity for participants to present their own clinical work

Presenter:  Jenny Riddell, psychoanalytic psychotherapist, Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships, London
