Event Details

The Raphael Project is an original work for piano, a suite in seven movements, composed by Antimo Magnotta inspired by the seven Raphael’s “Cartoons” on display at the Victoria and Albert museum in London. A musical interpretation of his masterworks.

This work is a unique reading and dramatization of each and every Cartoon, using Antimo’s own musical expression. He’s been enormously inspired by Raphael, regularly visited the Raphael Room at the V&A, documented and read about it.

This research led him to identify and recognize the common ground between musical and visual elements such as rhythm, tone, dynamics, pattern, melodic lines, form, texture and the correspondence they have each other. An ideal symbiosis between music and painting, a melting point where both the visual and the musical concepts are emphasized and enhanced reciprocally so that one could visualize the music as a painting and experience the painting as a musical score.
