The 2012 Stephen Lawrence Memorial Lecture with Chris Wise
This year’s Lecture is delivered by Gold Medal winning engineer and academic Professor Chris Wise. Chairing this year's lecture will be John Thompson, Chairman of John Thompson & Partners, who specialise in architecture and urban regeneration. RIBA's Chief Executive Officer Harry Rich, will be delivering a welcoming speech.
His vast experience includes work on the Olympic Velodrome, as well as projects in the UK and around the world. Chris will reflect on the ‘Ripple’ effect, which focuses supporting fledgling architects and future pioneers in iconic engineering and design, in an ever more competitive global market place.
As you are aware, the Trust was established in my son’s name Stephen Lawrence. Although Stephen had his dream of becoming an architect cruelly taken away, we hope to ensure that other young people are given every opportunity to fulfil their aspirations.
Through our bursary programme we aim to help young people, in the UK and internationally, achieve their ambitions of working in construction, design and architecture. On the back of this, we have broadened our work to include other professions such as, media, law, financial institutions, medicine and housing.
Previous speakers at the annual memorial lecture have included Zaha Hadid, The Prince of Wales, Mayor Boris Johnson, Dr Maya Angelou, Michael Mansfield QC, Lord Richard Rogers and David Lammy MP to name a few.
This year’s memorial lecture is one not to be missed. A limited number of tickets will be available. Early booking is recommended.
