To mark the start of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the University of York will be hosting a free event at York Minster.
The celebration event will comprise performances of Bruckner, Parry and Vaughan Williams by the staff, students and alumni of the Department of Music. We are also delighted that Dr Richard Shephard, Director of the York Minster Fund and an honorary graduate of the University, is composing a piece of music in recognition of our anniversary which will be performed for the first time at the celebration.
The University of York is extremely proud of its relationship with the city and its people. Consequently we have decided to mark our 50th anniversary by conferring honorary degrees on five individuals who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of York and Yorkshire. 50th Anniversary honorary degrees will therefore be conferred upon Janet Barnes, Chief Executive Officer of York Museums Trust; Robert Brech, the Chairman of York Science Park; John David, Master Mason of York Minster; the artist, David Hockney, and Dianne Swiers, Deputy Head Nurse, Scarborough, and adviser to the University’s Department of Health Sciences.
