Theatre Translation Forum Workshop Series - Naturalism
Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (GMT)
London, United Kingdom
The Theatre Translation Forum is a new initiative designed to create a meeting space for UCL academics and theatre practitioners to share common themes in their research, presenting and discussing issues relating to the theatrical presentation of translated performance. The associated workshops are conducted by professional directors and actors.
This workshop is led by Tara Robinson, who was the assistant director of the Gate Theatre's Dances of Death. It will aim to explore the process of moving dramatic text from page to stage, using Howard Brenton's adaptation of Dances of Death. Two actors and a director will explore key moments of the play practically, allowing students to watch an example rehearsal and a range of exercises designed to unlock the life of a text. They will also talk through the process of a four week rehearsal period, building character through interpretation and invite discussion over what 'remaining true to the writer' might mean to theatre practitioners.
