Book a tour with the Principal

We are delighted to offer the opportunity to tour our academy in the company of our principal Holly Hartley. Mrs Hartley will personally show you around the academy during a school day and answer any questions you may have.

With a relentless drive to raise academic standards, our results have continued to rise in 2016 and our progress has gone from strnegth to strength. Thistley Hough Academy is Stoke-on-Trent’s most improved school because every child gets the best support possible to support their learning and personal development.

  • This year’s examination results were the highest in the history of the Academy and we are confident that this year will be another record breaking year.

  • Levels of progress in both English and Maths have continued to rise.

  • Our excellent range of facilities helps our students to learn and grow.

Book a tour to see the full range, from sports fields and halls, to the lecture theatre and dance studio.

Thistley Hough Academy

Thistley Hough Academy is the most improved school in Stoke on Trent.

The original school was first opened in 1938 as Thistley Hough School for Girls. As a very prestigious and successful grammar school, Thistley Hough had a reputation for being unrivalled in the city for academic excellence. The school has numerous notable alumni and ‘Thistles’, as they are affectionately known, still display a passionate commitment to their former school.

There has been a renaissance in linking the school to its prestigious past in recent times as we have much to learn from our forebears. The school’s motto has been reinstated as have some of the former traditions such as the Honours Boards. The school is currently working on a mini-museum to celebrate our origins.

Despite proudly celebrating our heritage and traditional roots, our focus is firmly on the future and the quest to gain outstanding status.
