Transforming Health Visiting Services:

Sharing Success, Shaping the Future, Our '2-2.5 Year Review'

Join health visiting leaders on Wednesday 27 February 2013 at the Royal Institute for British Architects in London to find out about how services for children and families are improving across England. Since 2011, over 50 NHS organisations have been leading the national early implementation programme of our Health Visiting Call to Action.

Hear about the creative innovations that have made remarkable changes possible and join us in shaping how we plan nationally and locally to build on this momentum.

Information for workshop selections


Workshop A - The power of shared vision – partnership between families and professionals

This workshop will enable participants to:

  • Understand how health visitors can lead the realisation of the NHS Constitution for families and communities
  • Hear how quickly family-feedback can influence how the service offer is made available to families
  • Recognise the elements of a successful vision for services that meet families’ needs
  • Explore how to bring vision alive and sustain progress towards the vision

 

Workshop B - Building leadership capability through strengthening the role of Practice Teachers

This workshop will enable participants to:

  • Critically review current models of Practice Teaching
  • Realise the benefit of handing Practice Teachers the mandate to lead
  • Understand the importance of Practice Teachers as leaders in transformational change
  • Explore how the leadership role of Practice Teachers could be strengthened within Communities of Practice

 

Workshop C - Marketing health visiting service: sharing the vision with users and professionals

This workshop will enable participants to:

  • Understand how national marketing tools and local communication teams can support delivery of the vision
  • Understand what is required to write for publication both locally and nationally
  • Explore ways of using social media and modern technology to communicate the health visiting vision

 

Workshop D - Communities of Practice: spreading innovation and good practice

This workshop will enable participants to:

  • Learn about the benefits of local Communities of Practice
  • Understand how technology, virtual networks and joint-projects are connecting health visitors
  • Recognise the key elements of effective learning communities
  • Explore how Communities of Practice can be developed and sustained

 

Workshop E - Engaging with your local GP – a personal perspective

This workshop will enable participants to:

  • Learn about a GP’s personal experience of the transformation of health visiting services
  • Explore the local landscape, including the key drivers and priorities
  • Discuss how health visitors can work effectively with GPs and other public health partners

 

Workshop F - Demonstrating real outcomes for children and families

This workshop will demonstrate examples of innovative work, key learning and the benefits for families from Early Implementer Sites (EIS) Years One and Two.  The workshop will enable participants to:

  • Learn about the processes, pitfalls and solutions experienced by the EIS
  • Recognise the key elements to achieve these results
  • Apply the learning to achieve positive outcomes for families and children locally

 

Workshop G - Developing resilience for leading transformational change

This workshop will enable participants to:

  • Understand the physiological and psychological factors affecting leaders’ ability to perform
  • Understand the background, key concepts and evidence-base of the restorative supervision model
  • Discuss and explore how organisations can support and encourage leaders to restore their ability to think

 

Workshop H - Listening, learning and linking

Not for the ‘lovers of structure’, this session will have no set agenda and will experiment with principles of self-organisation and the law of two feet*.  The space will contain:

  • A bulletin board for posing questions, voicing concerns and providing feedback
  • A range of tools and resources that are helping to transform health visiting services
  • A physical space to listen and link with colleagues
  • A range of fantastic people, all committed to improving health for children and families
