QiGong Tuina – Treating Gynaecological problems, Pre Menstrual Syndrome and Dysmenorrhoea.


Course outline

This modular QiGong Tuina course if for practitioners who wish to learn Tuina and who have a working knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Each module / weekend has been uniquely designed and broken down into standalone teaching sessions allowing you to choose which of the 7 sessions you wish to attend. You can select 1, 2, 3, or all of the sessions, we have ensured that on each session you will always learn and cover new techniques and exercises.

If you decide to attend all 7 sessions, and pass all of the assessments set, you will have qualified as a Tuina practitioner, and have a complete set of Shaolin NeiGong QiGong and Tuina practical tools to use in clinic for you and your patients.

Importantly this course is underpinned by QiGong training and practice which is taught throughout each of the module / weekends.

 


Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for qualified practitioners and final year students of Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Osteopathy, Naturopathy, Shiatsu. or Physiotherapy etc. wishing to add Tuina to enhance their portfolio of treatment tools and develop further their Qi. As an attendee you are expected to have a background in Traditional Chinese / Asian medicine, have a working knowledge of the channel meridian system, and acupuncture points, and should be trained in anatomy and physiology to a level 4 or above. As such you could be a member of the BAcC, ATCMA, AACP, BMAS, RCHM, Shiatsu etc.

You should be familiar with the following key concepts and characteristics of TCM theory;

  • Yin-yang,
  • 5 elements,
  • The 12 Zang-Fu organs
  • Qi, blood and body fluids,
  • Aetiology and pathogenesis;

Diagnosis in TCM, including;

  • the four diagnostic methods (inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiring and palpation)
  • Differentiation of syndromes (identification of syndromes according to the eight guiding principles and zang-fu)
  • Principles and methods for prevention and treatment

 


What will I learn?

On each teaching weekend you will learn:

  • The historical development of Tuina practice
  • The basic concepts, theory and skills of Tuina.
  • Key concepts and skills of common Tuina techniques.
  • The application of the techniques covered on the syllabus (see below)
  • The appropriate application of combined techniques with the monitoring of therapeutic outcomes.
  • Diagnostic and treatment methods for common disorders using Tuina.
  • The application of Tuina for disease prevention, and health preservation.
  • The indications and the contraindications to tuina.

On each module / weekend you will learn a number of the 22 of the Tuina techniques, the 28 treatment routines to help you treat 28 common ailments, covering 10 subject areas. All of the above are covered if you attend all 7 sessions.

Each module / weekend has 2 hours of structured Qi gong covering the Shaolin Nei Gong style, giving you essential physical training for Tuina practice. Regular and appropriately devised exercise have been designed to enhance your constitution and provide you with the physical strength and resilience required for clinical practice.

Is this course assessed?

  • Yes, formative assessment on each CPD module will take the form of continual observation and feedback, students will receive constructive feedback on all of the techniques demonstrated and practised.

Certification

  • Each weekend module will be issued with a CPD certificate of attendance
  • ICOM will issue a diploma in Tuina on successful competition of all 7 modules

For attendees wishing to take all of the modules, assessment for the diploma award from ICOM will take the form of;

  • Written Theory Assessment (A short question paper of 20 questions giving short explanations covering all aspects which have been covered on the course, exam conditions – date to be set).
  • Ongoing practical treatment – (students will demonstrate the appropriate techniques covered thought the course in the form of a full observed treatment).
  • Ongoing practical treatment justification —(Students will be expected to verbally justify the treatment given with the tutor after the treatment).

Other information.

  • These are very practical and hands on courses. You will be expected to work in pairs and on each other throughout each weekend.
  • Tuina is practised through loose comfortable clothing and so you are asked to ensure that you wear this type of clothing for the course
  • Due to the very hands on practical nature of each session the minimum number of attendees required to run each session is 6
  • There will be a maximum of 16 attendees per weekend session this will ensure that you receive high quality observation, tuition and feedback.
  • There will be a maximum of 8:1 student teacher ratio.
