The first few months of life are crucial for children to develop attachments and learn about emotions and social interactions in their family. This lays the foundations for future social, emotional and cognitive development. Children who do not have secure relationships early in life are at greater risk of significant mental health problems, educational difficulties or conduct disorders.
The aim of this one day course is to enable practitioners to:
Describe the key concepts of attachment theory
Identify patterns of secure and insecure attachment, and their effects on children
Explain patterns of attachment and impact on parenting styles
Explore ways of creating a secure base for their organisation and families
An understanding of attachment, as described by British psychoanalyst John Bowlby and others, is essential learning for all those working with children and parents. This training is suitable for teachers and educators, health and social care workers, foster carers.
