Delivered through an ILM Accredited trainer in conjunction with the IQ Academy.

Leadership and management are often talked about in ways that suggest the 2 skills are interchangeable. This workshop will clarify the differences between the two and will enable you to explore what leadership is and learn how the skills of leadership can significantly improve your skills as a manager.  Exploring Leadership styles you will also review which Leadership Style you prefer to use and the likely positive and negatives effects of each style.  The outline content is:-

  • The qualities of leadership
  • The leader – roles and responsibilities 
  • Differences and similarities between leadership and management, and the need for each of them
  • Range of at least three leadership models (such as trait, contingency, situational, distributive, servant oblique leader, transactional/transformational) and their significance for task performance, culture and relationships
  • Leadership behaviours and the sources of power

  • Identification, development and appropriate choice of personal leadership styles and behaviours
  • The role of trust and respect in effective team leadership
  • Supervised practice or simulation to develop the ability to apply knowledge

 Your trainer

Andrew Mason has run his own Training and Development Consultancy for over 25 years and has extensive experience in both public and private sectors designing and delivering training programmes for all levels of management. His leadership & management experience has come from both the public sector and a large communications company as well as running his own business. 

Andrew has also worked with the Institute of Leadership and Management as a Business Consultant, External Verifier and Business Consultant - International for over 6 years building on his own experiences of running ILM programmes over a number of years. 

Key skills are Consultancy, Management Development, Train the Trainer, Presentation Skills, Quality Management, Customer Service and Assessment and Internal/External Quality Assurance. Andrew is also a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a Member of the Institute of Leadership and Management. 

Leadership & Management design and delivery experience for organisations such as The Rank Group, Birmingham City Council, VolkerWessels UK Ltd, The Scottish Prison Service College, Northamptonshire County Council, Abu Dhabi Police and a wide range of organisation across most sectors gives Andrew the experience for delivering informative and fun training programmes.
