Understanding legal service consumers:
New research briefing
Friday 23rd May 2014, 2pm

London, WC1H 0EG
On 23rd May at 2.00pm, Professor Pascoe Pleasence, Dr Nigel Balmer, Professor John Maule and Linstock communications will present the findings of two new research reports commissioned by the Legal Services Board. These are:
- How people resolve legal problems by Professor Pleasence and Dr Balmer. Legal needs research shows high levels of unmet legal need. The question this research asks and tries to explain is what drives peoples responses to legal problems? How far is it about the perception of services on offer, the framing of problems, or intrinsic beliefs and attitudes?
- An assessment of the most effective methods to help consumer identify and respond to legal problems by Professor Maule and Linstock Communications. Regulators have a duty to increase public understanding of citizens rights and duties. This research looks at what might be the most effective approach to doing this? It looks at what have other sectors done, and what the legal sector can learn from their experiences?
There will be a short introduction from the Legal Services Board Chief Executive Chris Kenny, followed by presentation from each of the authors, and will conclude with a short question and answer session.
This research will be published by the Legal Services Board on their website in the afternoon of Thursday 22 May.
