Urban Emergencies : Emergent Urbanism (UE:EU) is an independent research group which emerged from Cambridge Design Research Studio (CDRS), itself a research group within the University of Cambridge. UE:EU was originally established to:

Identify risks that are simultaneously exacerbated by the development of our urban environments and influencing new forms of resilient urbanism and urban design.
Facilitate dialogue between designers and planners of the built environment and academics and practitioners whose work encompasses the built environment. While disciplines vary wildly in approach, from epidemiology to psychological behavioural studies, UE:EU is building a platform which allows cross disciplinary discussion.
Create a growing resource on issues of risk and resilience in cities for future city designers, planners, and policymakers. We also propose new measures for more resilient cities through research and consultations with experts on urban resilience and risk.

The conference is intended as a platform for exchange and debate on the subjects of future risks and city resilience. Speakers will include not only designers and planners but also academics and researchers in sociology and psychology (among other disciplines). The conference offers a chance for cross-disciplinary discussion and to hear international perspectives on the risks shaping our cities.
