Communication Strategies in District Energy

You are invited to a Nordic Heat master class session focusing on how to present and sell in the concept of district energy to the various stakeholder groups and decision makers related to investments in district energy.

The Master Class on Urban Heating will have a more interactive approach than previous master classes. There will be a number of relevant speakers, but also opportunities to share experiences and ideas in smaller workshop sessions. The session will consider three themes:

I. Communication during the planning stage of district energy

Selling in the concept and the business plan of a project to key stakeholder groups

Investors
Local politicians
Anchor customers – captive audience (universities, public buildings, larger private customers)
Influential “pilots” – high profile customers
Key influencers – NGOs, media, social networks

II. Communication during the installation & commissioning stage

Securing acceptance and interest during installation and as the project evolves

General public
Targeted new customers

III. Sales and Marketing communication during the expansion stage

Laying the groundworks for self-driven expansion based upon a positive perception of district heating driving a growing demand combined with adding new low-carbon heat sources

Tobias Parker - Sustain
Toby is Sustain’sCEO and has guided the company since 2008 through changing social, economic, political and technological landscapes. He will be speaking about the social, behavioural and organisational challenges district heating projects face, and key approaches to stakeholder management.

Emma Ashcroft - Carbon Trust
Emma Ashcroft is an Associate at the Carbon Trust, supporting the public sector to develop decentralised energy and heat network projects. She specialises in stakeholder management and developed the Carbon Trust Stakeholder Engagement Model, a proven approach to securing buy in for heat network delivery which is recognised as industry best practice.

Lauren Salmon - Changeworks
Lauren Salmon is a researcher at Changeworks,an environmental charity with unique experience and insight on the consumer and landlord experiences of district heating.Lauren is currently researching the experiences of social housing providers in developing and delivering district and communal heating schemes.

Göran Skoglund - Öresundskraft
Göran has a long experience in professional communication in the B2B sector, having servedas communication manager in a number of international companies, e.g. Alstom,Siemens and Alfa Laval. He is currently the Director of Communicationat Öresundskraft AB since 2010. In this role he is in charge of all external and internal communication related to the various activities of Öresundskraft. Göran had a key role in the successful preparation and execution of the communication strategy related to the investment in a new Energy from Waste facility which was recently commissioned.

Mathias Bengtsson
Mathias has a long operational experienceas developer and manager in the real estate sector. During the past 16 years he has had the responsibility for some 250 000m2of commercial real estate involving some 450 different clients. In this role he was one of the main customers of Öresundskraft AB. Mathias has also been in charge of a number of development projects with particular focus strategies related to energy efficiency and sustainability. In this role he has developed a strong understanding in selecting and procuring heating solutions.

Peter Anderberg
Peter has 15 years of operational experience in the European district energy sector in a range of senior manager positions in Scandinavia and across Europe. Since 2011 Peter is the founder of HEATNET a pan-European management support company, business facilitator and market maker with the role of supporting the development of the district heating, cooling and waste recovery sectors. HEATNET has 250 professional partners across Europe, all with a long experience from the sector. Peter is also a founding partner of NORDICHEAT a peer-to-peer advisory service currently extending its activities across Europe. Peter is a co-founder of EUROPEAN DISTRICT ENERGY HOTSPOTS which are currently established in a range of markets.
