Event Details

The Markfield Steampunk Convivial is a Charity fundraising event. Buy purchasing a ticket, you can be sure that the proceeds are going towards keeping the Markfield Beam engine and museum alive! Tickets also get you into the VIP areas: The Willows and The Mezzanine, and also to the evening extravaganza!

It is primarily a family fun day, with a fancy dress theme. There is a suggested dress code which is Victorian/Steampunk because we are celebrating the opening of the Beam Engine museum - and whilst dressing up is not compulsory of course, it is highly encouraged!

There will be some stalls inside the hall, and some stalls in marquees outside. Some stalls will be selling hand made jewellery and other items, and there will also be some community stalls, and we are hoping for a few organic food stalls too. We are aiming to promote the local community, organic products and handmade arts and crafts. The cafe will be open, but are also suggesting a picnic if the weather is nice. The stalls and cafe are open to the public.

There will be musical entertainment during the day, and in the evening, as well as some silly sporting events such as snail racing, tea duelling and costumed ostrich racing. (That's ostrich costumes...we don't dress ostriches up in costumes and race them...in case you were wondering!) Indoors, and upstairs in the Mezzanine there will be talks, exhibitions and book readings through the day. There will be a miniature hot air balloon attempt outdoors, and remote controlled helium balloon zeppelins inside the hall.

It is a gathering that will include:

•Steampunk snail racing (subject to availability)

•Real snail racing (bring your own snail)

•Tea duelling

•Costumed Ostrich Racing

•Steampunk arts & crafts, and organic food market

•Live music

•Miniature hot air balloon attempt

•A steampunk picnic in the park

- and much more!
