Description

Beneficiary Description:

Pentrepoeth Primary is a school designed for pupils aged between four and eleven and currently has 413 pupils. The school opened in September 1986, replacing two older local primary schools. The spacious site comprises of large and well maintained hard and grassy play areas and car parking spaces arranged in tiers upon the attractively landscaped hillside. The elevated site lies to the south of the village of Rhiwderin. The busy village of Bassaleg together with its large comprehensive school lies to the east. The school enjoys an open aspect with breathtaking views across the lower Ebbw valley.

The outdoor space is utilised fully, with a field for rugby and football, a large play area, nature trail, pond and numerous outdoor seating areas. The development of the outdoor areas has been made possible by the active participation and generosity of the PTA and governing body coordinated by Pentrepoeth’s Eco Schools leader, Mr Wilmore.

Activity Description:

Being an Eco School, Pentrepoeth has an incredible number of raised wooden planters and flower beds located all over the grounds. The school would like all of these flower beds treated with wood preserver to maintain their appearance and protect against degradation. The children and governors of the school will complete the planting of all the raised beds but if the business wishes to supply enough plants to plant 3 beds for a photo opportunity of what they will look like when planted they would be welcome to do so. The schools long term plan is to purchase a potting shed and grow all their own plants from seeds.

Other information:

The school can supply the paint required for the project, some brushes and some hand tools for the gardening tasks. We would recommend the team leader do an inventory of tools required when they visit the project and know how many volunteers they have.

The school would like volunteers to attend after the school day has started and the children are inside at around 9:15am and then plan to finish activities before or after the children leave between 3:15 – 3:30.

The school will promote the business via their TV’s/monitors situated around the school, they will also post information on the schools Blog.
