'Walking Out Of Darkness' is taking place between Bath and Bristol on World Suicide Prevention Day, Saturday 10th September 2016.
Professor Kevin Elliston - Deputy Director, PHE South West has said “PHE South West wishes the event and its organisers, every success particularly in the important task of increasing mental health awareness and tackling stigma caused by mental ill-health”.
The Southwest region of England has sadly, one of the highest number of mental health incidents and suicides across the country. We invite people from across the country to join the local community of Bath and Bristol, the surrounding counties and southwest region at this event to help increase mental health awareness, suicide prevention and end the stigma surrounding mental illness.
The event starts in Green Park, Bath with the route between Bath and Bristol taking you from the elegant Roman Spa city of Bath to Bristol, the vibrant and largest city in southwest England. Previous events have been attended and supported by the Department of Health, Public Health England, NHS England, Bank of England, Sport England, local Councils, Time to Change, Rethink Mental Illness, Business in the Community, Legal & General and many more.
Take the 10 mile walk challenge with 2 refreshment points situated on route, whilst enjoying the picturesque route from Bath, through the beautiful South Gloucestershire countryside, ending in Bristol with local and national charities, businesses, services and organisations supporting you every step of the way and providing information for your to improve your mental and physical health wellbeing.
'Walking Out Of Darkness' events aim to bring the nation together in new locations to walk as one and help increase mental health awareness, end mental illness stigma and focused suicide prevention on World Suicide Prevention Day.

In four years, CLASP has become an established force in the field of mental health awareness and suicide prevention working with a spectrum of organisations such as the Department of Health, NHS England, Public Health England, local Councils, Businesses, Charities and numerous organisations in numerous ways including their 'Walking Out Of Darkness' events.
