Event Details

Wandsworth's Takeover Challenge 2016

Children's Commissioner National Takeover Challenge which sees organisations across England opening their doors to young people, to allow them to takeover the roles of adults.

Young people benefit from the opportunity to experience the world of work and be involved in high level decision making. Adults and organisations get the benefit of gaining a young people's perspective on what they do and their organisations services.

Wandsworth Youth Council run their Takeover Challenge every year and invite all young peole, aged 12 - 18, to take part. Last year they won a National Gold Commendation Award  for their event!

Young people get the chance to take over from senior decision makers in the Council, Children and Adult Mental Health Services and Police.

 What will I be doing?

We ask Senior Officers to schedule interesting opportunities on the day. Examples of things that young people could be doing include:

  • Co-Chairing a meeting.
  • Learning new skills e.g. presentation, work etiquette, answering emails.
  • Finding out how organisations work behind the scenes.
  • Visiting centres that officers manage, for example: Children’s Centres, Libraries, Health Services, and Police stations.
  • Helping to improve or design services provided by organisations
  • Helping Wandsworth Services make decisions that affect young people
  • Designing promotional material for young people.
  • Consulting friends and family on how best to solve a problem your service faces
  • Writing a press release or blog on an upcoming project you are launching
  • Teaching a staff team about how best to communicate with young people
  • Helping to plan and design an event for young people
