Wheely Wonders Family Day

A Summertime family day of forest school, farm fun and crafts, specifically designed for children with special educational needs and disabilities, physically disabled children, their siblings, parents and carers, set at Applefield, a beautiful, intimate and private smallholding in Sidlesham, near Selsey.

We will spend sometime throughout the morning having a relaxed stroll exploring the farm and meeting some of the animals. Spot the lambs happily skipping around the field, we may even get the opportunity to get up close to one. Meet Rosemary the donkey and her pony friends and feed her a carrot or two. Visit the goats and see the chickens wandering around the farm.

We will be running some forest school activities and these may include sawing and drilling wood to make natural crafts to take home and remind you of your day. Time spent in the wooded area, hunting for bugs, exploring, relaxing in the hammock or playing on the swing.

Around the fire circle there will be an opportunity to learn fire lighting skills using a flint and steel for those who wish to try and we will have a camp fire to enjoy some toasted marshmallows with a drink and have some well earned relaxing time before a leisurely lunch break to enjoy your picnic on the field or in the greenhouse before an afternoon of Lizzie's Craft Club.

Lizzie's Craft Club will be held in the garden (weather permitting), where you will spend a relaxing afternoon creating your own person using collage materials and a scratch art photo frame to put a memory of your day with us into. A drink and biscuit will also be provided during Craft Club.

Price: £8.00 per child (plus a small eventbrite booking fee), (siblings under 2 come free) Parents/carers do not pay for a ticket. Places are partially funded by Wellspring West Sussex, reducing the overall cost of the day of activities at Applefield.

Things to note:

Parking will be available on the field with plenty of wheelchair access and space for lowering ramps etc. The site is wheelchair accessible, with a wheelchair friendly bathroom and changing area.

If you are staying all day, please bring a picnic with you.

We can have the use of the communal greenhouse if necessary, which can be used for activities or at lunchtime.
