Wiltshire's Great War - commemorating the Centenary

An open meeting to discuss and develop ideas about commemorating the Centenary of Wiltshire's Great War. Find out what is going on and how you, your organisation and your community can take part. We hope to be able to update on current funding opportunities to help make an exciting County-wide programme, starting in 2014 and running through to 2019.
We are inviting a wide range of organisations and individuals who are interested - and please help us by spreading the word! We are inviting organisations such as:-
- local history groups
- Town and Parish Councils
- theatre groups
- youth organisations (Scouts, Guides etc)
- veterans organisations
- arts organisations
- and there will be many more!
The meeting is being organised by the Wiltshire Great War Centenary Group, which currently includes:-
- Finding the Forgotten
- Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum
- Salisbury Playhouse
- Wiltshire Archaeology Field Group
- Wiltshire Council - including the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre
- Wiltshire Museum
- Wiltshire Soldiers
We will also be jointed by Josie Gale, Centenary Project Manager at the Imperial War Museum. The IWM is leading the First World War Centenary Partnership, a network of over 500 local, regional, national and international cultural and educational organisations. Together, we will present a vibrant global programme of cultural events and activities, and digital platforms which will enable millions of people across the world to discover more about life in the First World War.
The evening will include an opportunity to display information about your organisation. Just book your table when you register!

The Wiltshire Museum in Devizes is home to the best Bronze Age archaeology collection in Britain. We have outstanding collections that trace the fascinating history of Wiltshire, its environment and its people over the last 6,000 years. The displays feature collections excavated from the Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site.
