An excellent two day in-depth Computing CPD opportunity for teachers / prospective teachers of Computing at KS4 and KS5 in schools. Includes follow up support sessions.

Cost - $360 / £0

NB We are not charging for this event, but you MUST attend on both the Friday AND the Saturday in order for the event to be Free of Charge. Otherwise there will be a charge of $360. There will be a number of follow-up CPD events organised to take things forward during the school year 2013-14. Delegates must be able to commit to these too. Lunch & refreshments will be provided.

We expect demand to be very high, so initially only ONE delegate per centre please 

Course Information - Summary

This two-day CPD opportunity will include a wide variety of high-quality, interesting sessions aimed at helping teachers develop Computer Science learning and teaching in their centres at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.

Some sessions will explore how teachers could teach particular concepts and content in their classes. Other sessions will be aimed at developing skills in areas of Computing.

The course is aimed at the beginner / intermediate level, and is for staff who are looking to build their confidence in their delivery of GCSE Computing or GCE Computing courses, and those that are planning to start delivery. If you are an experienced teacher of Computing this course is not suitable for you!)
 
It will cover a range of topics such as

Computational Thinking
Introduction to coding in Python
Coding in Javascript / HTML5 / Canvas
Pedagogy of teaching Computing
App Inventor
Digital Logic
Managing A Level CS Projects
Algorithms and Pseudo-Code
From Pseudo-Code to code
From Scratch to Coding
CPU Architectures

There will be a choice of sessions during the two days, with a GCSE "Track" and a GCE "Track" running.

With the follow up support sessions and activities that are planned, this represents an excellent opportunity for staff to develop a range of useful skills to support their delivery of Computing courses.
 
The course will be delivered jointly by University staff and experienced Computing teachers from Worcestershire and Gloucestershire schools, and has been quality assured a CAS / Network of Excellence for Teaching Computer Science Regional Coordinator.
