Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
Saturday 14th September 2013 - registration from 6.30am - start from 7am
Start and finish in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Yorkshire Dales
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a circular walking challenge of around 25 miles, which visits the summits of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough. It is a very popular challenge for those wishing to raise funds for charities or other good causes.
A link to our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge guide will appear here.
For 2013, we have three entry classes to cater for individuals, and both self-guided and guided groups. We are no longer able to pre-book accommodation for you, but will provide links for you to book camping, bunkhouse, or B&B accommodation should you need it. We do recommend you make a weekend out of this event, so you can enjoy a celebratory drink or two after your triumphant return to Horton.
Merseyventure have been involved with organising Three Peaks Challenges for over 10 years, and our team of mountain guides and support staff are all friendly and approachable, and have all got a wealth of experience to share with you. We like to encourage a fun, friendly and social atmosphere on our events, not simply another charity challenge event.
Full details of the registration venue will be emailed to you before the event.
Registration opens at 0630 hours. All individuals and team members must attend registration to check contact details and make any ammendments. Teams and individuals will recieve their information packs, maps and team bibs or ID tabs.
Registered teams and individuals will then proceed to kit checks, and once our staff are happy you have all of the required items, you will proceed to attend the next group safety meeting. This will last around 5 minutes. Once you have attended this safety brief - you're ready to start.
The first start will be at 0700 hours. The start will consist of a photo, timestamp, then GO. This will take around 30 seconds, and teams or individuals who wish to start together may do so. However, there will not be a mass start, and you may have to queue for 10-15 minutes depending upon how many teams are in front of you.
Registration will close after the last entrant has attended, or 0800 hours - whichever is the earlier. No further teams or individuals will be registered after 0800 hours. The start will close at 0800 hours or shortly after to allow the last registered team to start.
You will require basic walking equipment and clothing, food and drinks. Full details will be emailed to you before the event, but you should have walking boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, fleece jacket, breathable base layer, hat and gloves, small rucksack, head torch and spare batteries, personal first aid kit, plus dry clothing back in your car. Participants MUST have a minimum level of suitable clothing and equipment which will be checked before starting the walk.
It is possible that we may not be able to reach all of the summits safely due to weather conditions on the day. In such cases, we will impose a foul weather route where possible. In the circumstance that we cannot run the event at all due to severe weather (ie heavy snow or flooding) we will offer the option of a full refund or alternative date, but are not able to help with any other expenses - ie, accommodation or travel.
The mobile phone signal at Horton-in-Ribblesdale itself varies depending upon network. However, in the surrounding valleys the signal is very poor, but on most summits is good. It is very possible you may not be able to contact ourselves, or your friends, on the day once in this area. There is a payphone in the local inns. You WILL NOT be able to inform us if you are going to arrive late - and the start venue will not be staffed after 8am - hence leaving enough time to get to Horton - see above...!
If you wish to have your own private guide for the above challenge on different dates, we can organise one of our guides to stay with you or your group of up to 6 walkers for £200 for a full day. Please email email@example.com to book.
