Not content with taking tea in Madrid, Philadelphia, London and Edinburgh already this year, The Adventurists next teatime foray ventures even further afield, to Sydney, Australia. And since it’s not only our first Australian mission, but a bloody long way to go, there really is only one Australian adventurer who we wanted to take tea with. And that fine gentleman is Jon Muir.

Jon is the very epitome of a legend. Just one of his gravity, nature and death-defying feats would mark him out as a Great. Add them all up and he is nothing short of superhuman. He’s the most famous adventurer in Australian history, Australia’s most brilliant climber, and one of the most versatile adventurers on the face of the earth today.

Jon’s illustrious adventuring career is littered with ‘firsts’. He made the first Sherpa-less ascent of Everest from the South, pioneered a new route to the South Pole and was the first person ever to walk solo and unsupported across Australia. The latter odyssey, which he dubbed The Great Mission, was an epic 128 day, 1600 mile journey, every day of which Jon describes as being harder than summiting Everest. During the journey Jon survived on bush tucker and lost 30% of his body-weight.

Quite apart from these incredible firsts, Jon has also walked unsupported to the North Pole, kayaked 5000km through shark and crocodile infested waters, walked solo to Australia’s Geographic Centre, self-filmed numerous documentaries and penned a book, Alone across Australia, about his Very Long Walk.

Afternoon Tea with Jon Muir is taking place on Saturday November 12 2011, at the Justice & Police Museum in Sydney. The doors to this spiffing event will open at 5 pm, and the adventuresome revelry will continue until 9pm.

The Museum can be found at Cnr Albert and Phillip Streets, Circular Quay, Sydney, NSW 2000.

As with all our teas, we are running this event with Hendrick’s gin, and hence your ticket will not only include a gusset-burstingly exiting talk from Jon, but also a delectable tea and buckets of delicious Hendrick’s gin cocktails.
